Surroundings
Sintra: In the old town alone, there are a several palaces, museums and parks. The Moorish Castle and the Pena Palace up in the mountain take up a morning or an afternoon – and don’t forget the fantastic Pena Park! You can hike up, take a bus, a horse drawn carriage – or your own car. A word of warning though, the parking in the summer months might be tough. Regaleira and the National Palace are in the centre of the city, where you also have lots of shops with local handicrafts and gift items – and lots of cafés and restaurants to choose from.
Estoril and Cascais are also very near by. Cascais is an old fishing village, now one of the trendiest towns in Portugal. The famous Guincho beach, and great shopping and night life are some of its strongest attractions. Estoril boasts the Formula 1 track that hosts the World Motorcycle Championships and Casino with excellent dinner shows and concerts. They are both less than 20 kms or a local busride away!
