Located a stone's throw from the pretty fortified village of Montreuil, at the end of the road that leads to the woods, Mrs Macé de Gastines has recently opened a B&B in her country house "Le Pré Rainette". Although the house appears to be a contemporary-style villa, inspired by local traditional architecture, inside the decor is surprisingly "lived-in" and patinated. The doors, woodwork, floorboards, furniture and ornaments have been picked up here and there, notably in Belgium.
Upstairs in the main building are two comfortable, carefully-decorated bedrooms that each have a washbasin and which share a separate bathroom. There is also a smaller third bedroom which can be used for children by family groups.
The smaller house with its own entrance at the side of the main building is more intimate. On the ground floor is a terrace overlooking the garden and the pond, a huge living room-cum-lounge, a dining room and a kitchenette. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a shared bathroom.
The French-style breakfasts can be served on the terrace, under the verandah or in the dining room, warmed by an open fire in the colder months. Guests can also enjoy and relax in the pretty garden with its pond and swimming pool, or borrow bicycles to explore the surroundings.
