POPLAR FARM BED AND BREAKFAST AND SELF CATERING HOLIDAYS
WEDMORE - SOMERSET

Poplar Farm is a family-run business offering bed and breakfast accommodation and self catering holidays. It is also a working small-holding of 25 acres where we rear animals for beef and also keep chicken, guinea-pigs, rabbits, ducks, and Jack Russell Terriers ;

Mike and Maureen Isgar assure you of a warm welcome when you come to stay at Poplar Farm, a traditional Somerset Longhouse, now renovated, and set in a half-an-acre of gardens in a quiet rural setting, surrounded by orchards and pasture land.

The building has many interesting features including original oak beams, and a warm, relaxing ambience. It nestles in the heart of the West Country and is an ideal base for exploring the countryside and abundant historical features of Somerset, or simply for rural relaxation

We want you to enjoy your break and still have the comforts of home. Each of the letting bedrooms is en-suite and has a colour television and tea/coffee making facilities. The self-catering accommodation has a fully equipped kitchen/diner and a shower room.

To get your day off to a good start we offer a traditional English breakfast made from wholesome, locally-grown produce. Special diets can be catered for with prior notice.
Poplar Farm offers ideal accommodation for families who want the freedom to come and go as they please. Ample private parking is available.

Whether you are staying for just one night, a weekend break, or a longer holiday, you can be assured of a comfortable and enjoyable break.

General Information
The dwelling house was part built in the early 17th century and was formerly an Ale House. The rest was added in the 18th century in the Somerset Longhouse style. A cow house(now redundant), stable and hay store were reachable without going outside, so the farmer could go about his business without getting cold in the winter. Eight years ago, we totally renovated the house (a pictorial history is available for guests to see) and the loft and barn have been exposed to show off their character. It has been said that the three long beams in the house were once part of the masts of sailing ships.

Where is Poplar Farm?
West Stoughton is a small hamlet up of around 17 houses and is one of a trio: West Stoughton; Middle Stoughton; and Stoughton Cross. It is about a mile from the village of Wedmore, where Alfred the Great signed the peace treaty with Guthram in 898AD.

We are situated on the Somerset levels close to the Mendip Hills and the Quantock Hills where there are many places to visit.

GOLF:

The area is well-served with high quality golf courses, the nearest being the Isle of Wedmore Golf Club which is within a mile and is highly recommended. Within easy reach are the Wells, Mendip Spring, Burnham & Berrow, and Brean courses.
