Highfield Bed and Breakfast near Leominster Golf Club, The Herefordshire Golf Club providing accommodation near golf courses in Herefordshire for Golf breaks and golf holidays in Herefordshire.

The home of twins Catherine and Marguerite Fothergill.

Comfortable accommodation for the discerning traveller

Highfield is a very comfortable house that was built around 1901. It stands in an acre of garden surrounded by open farmland, with views of distant hills in and Shropshire, just 1.5 miles along the Ivington Road from the old market town of Leominster in Herefordshire.

There are three bedrooms available to guests. All the rooms are spacious and attractive with delightful out-looks. They have trays and kettles for making drinks, and radio alarm clocks, one room has an en-suite bathroom, and the other two have wash basins and bath/shower rooms across the landing. The house is centrally heated but we do provide convector heaters in the rooms should extra heating be necessary.

Our Rooms :

The en-suite room has twin beds, oak ones from the 1930’s (modern mattresses though!) A built in wardrobe with oak coloured louvre doors and the rest of the furniture is oak coloured as well. The room faces south east and so receives the morning sun. As there are windows on two walls there are views of the garden and of sheep and lambs frolicking in the field behind the hawthorn hedge on the opposite side of the road.

The twin bedded room, also facing the same way, the out-look from this room is similar to that of the en-suite room.

Room with double bed faces west and looks out on to the garden patio and fields with the sight of distant Shropshire hills . This room looks out over the patio and then a planted field.

There is a breakfast menu displayed in the bedroom and we like it if people indicate to us the night before what they would like. This is a great help for preparation as we need only provide food required, and can also then supply a reasonable choice of breakfast dishes.

The dining room at the front of the house also has a bay window and so breakfast is often taken in bright sunshine

Downstairs there are two sitting rooms for the use of visitors :

The lounge at the back is the Television room and has sage green walls with matching carpet. There are French windows in this room which open on to the patio behind the house and a huge brick fire-place that is very much in use in the Autumn, Winter and Spring when we have roaring log fires going. Because the French windows face west we sometimes see very beautiful sunsets.

Our cooking is not "pretentious" or "gimmicky". We like food and care about how it is produced and prepared. We cook classic dishes with popular international flavours if desired, but also good traditional English fayre and, as we are in the middle of a farming community, concentrate on using ingredients produced in the county.

We offer a three course dinner for those with good appetites, but smaller meals for smaller appetites. We do cater for vegetarians and people who have special diets provided that we know of their needs beforehand, and if it is a particularly special occasion we can present a special menu. Usually on the first evening we provide a meal that we hope will be agreeable to all, unless we have heard otherwise beforehand. On subsequent evenings the menu will have been discussed at breakfast, when we try to offer some choice.
